Alerts

Alerts are worked out on Kealink's servers as readings arrive. Nobody needs to be looking at the portal.

When an alert opens and closes

AlertOpensCloses
HighA reading above the high limitThe first reading back inside the limits
LowA reading below the low limitThe first reading back inside the limits
Not reportingNo reading for three intervalsThe machine reports again

A reading exactly on a limit is not a breach.

  • Reopening. A breach within five minutes of the same alert closing reopens it, so a value sitting on a limit is one alert, not a stream of emails.
  • Back to normal is sent only once the value has stayed inside its limits for five minutes.
  • Alert after N minutes, set per reading, makes a breach last that long before the alert opens. The alert is dated from when the breach began.
  • Wait before alerting, set per machine, delays the not reporting alert. The machine still shows as not reporting straight away.
  • Buffered readings never raise alerts about the past: only the newest value of each reading is checked.

Warning levels

A number reading can also have a warning low and warning high, inside its limits. Crossing one opens a warning by the same rules as an alarm. Warnings are listed on the Alerts page and counted in the daily report, but never emailed, notified or sent to a webhook.

Shifts

A machine's not reporting alert can be raised always, only during shifts, or never. A reading's limits can alert always or only during shifts.

Who is told

ChannelWho
EmailYour company's alert contact, and anyone with Alert emails switched on. One email when an alert opens, one when it closes.
Phone notificationAnyone who turned on Alerts on this device in Settings. See On your phone.
WebhookYour company's webhook, if set. See Webhooks.

At most 30 alert emails per company per hour are sent.

Acknowledging

Anyone signed in can acknowledge an open alert, which records who is dealing with it and takes it out of the red count beside Alerts. The alert stays open until the reading recovers, and the back to normal email still arrives. It can be undone.

Setting limits

Limits are set per reading in Settings, by a manager or administrator, and take effect on the next reading. Leave one side empty for no alert on that side. A dashboard band can also set a limit with Alert me above or Alert me below.

Set a limit where you would want a person to act. A limit that fires every day gets ignored.
